GM’s First Electric Car: Chevy Volt April 1, 2010 | 12:21 pm

The chevy Volt is General Motors’ first electric car. It is a 5-door compact hatchback. It can run 40 miles on battery and 300 miles on gasoline engine. It has got a generator that can send power directly to car’s motor. The technology is much better than electric hybrids like Prius of Toyota. It was unveiled in 2007 Detroit auto show as a concept car, and is likely to be launched in December 2010. The coast hasn’t been decided yet, though the estimates are around $ 40,000.

In the beginning, there will be only 10,000 cars and around 60,000 in the next year. It has got a lithium ion battery pack situated in a tunnel between front seats and going under the rear seat. The driving is exactly like a normal car and acceleration and braking is very good. As yet, it has got a single body design and options to choose are very few. The car comes with a charging code and full charging takes approximately 5 hours. The company has yet to give the gas mileage. There is an option of choosing polished chrome or silver paint on the wheal spokes. You can also choose two-tone leather upholstery over the standard cloth. There is also an option of heated seats.

The latest escalade, transit connect and TT series are the various new cars launched of the above manufacturers and expert reports also say that the cars are flying well in the market.
